Collaborations

For the exhibition Collaborations, the artists of Blink were invited to develop works with other individuals, specialists or groups. The specifics of the relationships and ideas that have grown (or failed to grow) for this exhibition, confront the positivism that currently surrounds the idea of collaborative creation. Through diverse projects that span disciplines and mediums Collaborations makes space for questioning how our values and expectations line up with reality.

Unlike music, theatre, dance, film or design, collaboration in the visual arts is a choice not a necessity. This exhibition asks you to consider why an artist would choose to collaborate. Why the idea of an artist relinquishing control over the concept, construction or completion of a work is currently favoured. Whether the process of negotiation is more, less, or just as important as what is produced. And whether collaboration brings about better results and in which way better: socially, aesthetically or critically and better for whom?

Featuring work by Barbara Cuerden with the Ron Kolbus Lakeside Centre, Tami Galili Ellis & Chelsea Passmore with Tom Evans, Meaghan Haughian & Laurie Koensgen, Jean Jewer & Francine Lemieux, Cynthia O’Brien & Emma Rochester and Bozica Radjenovic & Ana Nedeljkovic with with Creative Workshop for Teenagers in Belgrade, Serbia.
